Household & Commercial Storage

Background Photo

When you need a storage solution that actually fits your situation, the Durham warehouse at DeHaven's Transfer & Storage offers something most self-storage companies can't match: a fully-staffed, insulated and temperature-managed, monitored facility with the operational support to handle everything from a single household's worth of furniture to ongoing commercial inventory and FF&E project staging. We've been operating storage in Durham since 1962 as part of a family-owned business founded in 1951, and our facility serves residential customers, commercial accounts, project clients, and specialty needs across North Carolina. Whether you need short-term storage during a move, long-term warehousing for a business, or secure records storage, our team can build a storage plan that fits.

Trusted with North Carolina's Most Important Storage Projects

Over more than seven decades in business, DeHaven's has been entrusted with storage needs that go well beyond standard household and commercial accounts. In 2005, we coordinated the full pack-out, secure storage, and return of the contents of the North Carolina Executive Mansion during a major remediation project. We've also handled long-term storage of academic and research equipment for Duke University, UNC, and NC State. These credentials reflect what we bring to every storage project: secure handling, careful inventory, temperature-managed protection, and accountability through every phase.

  • Long-term household storage in containerized vaults
  • Commercial and business inventory storage
  • Records and document storage with chain-of-custody handling
  • FF&E and project material warehousing
  • Furniture, fixture, and equipment receiving and staging
  • Fine art, antique, and high-value storage

Residential Storage

Most residential storage needs come up around moves, renovations, military relocations, downsizing, or estate transitions. Our team handles all of these. We can pick up your belongings from your home, inventory and pack them properly, store them in containerized vaults at our Durham warehouse, and deliver them to your new home or back to your existing home when you're ready. For full-service moves where storage is part of the project, the storage portion integrates seamlessly with your move plan, so everything happens under one project with one move coordinator.

Commercial and Business Storage

Businesses use our warehouse for a range of needs that self-storage facilities can't accommodate. We provide commercial inventory storage with receiving and shipping support, ongoing FF&E warehousing for hospitality and project clients, records and archive storage, retail and showroom overflow storage, and seasonal inventory management. For commercial accounts that need ongoing receiving, inventory tracking, and last-mile delivery, our warehouse and logistics team can build a full inventory and distribution program. Warehouse Storage

Owning or leasing your own warehouse is expensive, and most businesses don't need a full facility's worth of space. Our warehouse storage service gives you secure, professionally-managed storage for raw materials, finished goods, project inventory, or business assets without the overhead of operating your own warehouse. Storage can be arranged on flexible terms, and we provide receiving, inventory, and outbound shipping support for accounts that need it. Learn more about our Warehouse Storage services.

Records and Document Storage

For businesses, law firms, healthcare practices, and any operation that needs secure document storage, our warehouse offers records storage with monitored access, fire suppression, and theft protection. Records are organized, labeled, and tracked so they can be retrieved when needed. For healthcare, legal, and other regulated industries, we work with your compliance team on chain-of-custody protocols. Learn more about our Records Storage services.

FF&E and Project Material Storage

Project clients in hospitality, retail rollouts, and commercial construction often need a place to receive, stage, and warehouse FF&E (furniture, fixtures, and equipment) before installation. Our warehouse provides receiving, inspection, inventory, and staged delivery to support these projects, including coordination with multiple vendors shipping product on different schedules. We can store FF&E for weeks, months, or as long as the project requires.

Our Warehouse and Security

Our Durham warehouse is built to handle everything from individual household stored vaults to large-scale commercial accounts. The facility features:

  • Insulated, temperature-managed storage (typically maintained between 55 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit)
  • 24/7 monitoring, alarms, and surveillance
  • Fire suppression and detection systems
  • Theft protection and access control
  • Containerized vault storage for organized household and commercial accounts
  • Open warehouse space for FF&E, inventory, and project staging
  • Receiving and outbound shipping operations
  • Forklift and material handling equipment
  • Trained warehouse staff under management oversight

How Storage Works at DeHaven's

Storage with us starts with a conversation about what you need to store, how long you need to store it, what level of access you'll want, and any specialty requirements. For most residential and commercial storage, we can pick items up from your location, inventory and pack them for storage, and bring them to our warehouse. Pricing depends on volume, duration, service type, and any add-ons like receiving services or pickup and delivery. We provide written estimates so you know exactly what you're paying for.

Our warehouse is located in Durham, with pickup and delivery available throughout our service area.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is your storage different from self-storage facilities?

Self-storage gives you a unit and a key. Our full-service storage gives you pickup, packing, inventory, monitored security, and the operational support of a staffed warehouse. Our vaults can also be loaded onto trucks and delivered to your home so your belongings can be loaded directly into storage from your front door. This helps reduce the number of times your items are loaded on and off of trucks, which can help protect your items.

Can I access my belongings during the storage period?

Yes. For full-service storage, we schedule access during business hours so our team can retrieve your items from the vault. Access policies and timing depend on which storage service you're using.

Is your warehouse climate-controlled?

We have temperature controlled storage for our vaulted areas and climate control is available for items that need temperature and humidity control, including fine art, antiques, electronics, important documents, musical instruments, leather furniture, and other sensitive items. Standard storage is also temperature-managed but not as tightly controlled as the climate-controlled options.

How is pricing structured?

Pricing depends on the type of storage, the volume of items being stored, the duration, receiving services, or pickup and delivery. We provide written estimates after understanding your specific situation. Long-term storage rates are typically lower per month than short-term rates.

Do you have a minimum storage duration?

Most of our storage services are flexible on duration. You can store for a few weeks during a move, a few months during a renovation, or for years for long-term needs. We work with you on terms that fit your timeline.

Is my stored property protected?

Storage at our facility includes baseline valuation coverage, with options for higher coverage levels available depending on the value of items being stored. We can walk through coverage options during the quote process so you can choose the level that fits your situation.

Do you handle commercial inventory and ongoing receiving?

Yes. For commercial accounts, we offer ongoing receiving, inventory tracking, and outbound shipping or delivery support. This is one of the highest-value services we provide for businesses that need warehousing without operating their own facility.
